The StoreJet 35T features Transcend’s cutting-edge TurboHDD USB technology that offers unprecedented data transfer performance, enhancing write speeds from 33MB/s to an average of 42MB/s—an increase of nearly 30%. When the drive is switched from standard mode into TurboHDD USB mode, its ring-shaped LED indicator will also change colors from green to bright blue to help users identify the drive’s current speed status.

About the size of a hardback book, the black streamlined StoreJet 35T offers up to 1.5TB capacity. The StoreJet 35T makes external storage easier than ever with its unique One Touch auto-backup button that other 3.5-inch external hard drive brands do not include.

The One Touch backup systems lets users instantly backup and synchronize data with their notebook or desktop PC, ensuring their important data is safely stored in a secondary location.

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) has been riding the 2TB bandwagon for some time now, producing a solid 7200rpm 2TB internal HDD and outfitting its G-Technology line with the same spacious platters. Nowm, the company is announcing the availability of the newly designed SimpleDrive external HDD, and surprise, surprise, it’ll have a 2TB drive within.

Also, the firm announced that all of its 3.5-inch retail drives are now available in 2TB capacities, and two of those solutions include the Hitachi SimpleTech Pro Drive and the two-drive, RAID 0/1 Duo Pro Drive. Each of these are available now, with the new 2TB SimpleDrive USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive costing $249.99.

Hitachi GST has been pushing 2TB hard drives for quite some time, but for whatever reason, the outfit’s long-standing SimpleDrive line has been held back from enjoying the spoils. Until today, obviously. The outfit has just introduced a 2TB edition of its external SimpleDrive, and it also announced that all of its 3.5-inch retail drives are now available in 2TB capacities. There’s also an upgraded Hitachi SimpleTech Pro Drive and Duo Pro Drive (2 x 2TB), with prices for the entire lot checking in at $249.99, $299.99 and $499.99 in order of mention. Oh, and in just case your 250GB drive from 2002 just hit its limit today, you’ll be elated to know that each of these are available as we speak.

You can (slightly) configure them to your hearts content, but any color outside of black comes with a $30 price premium. We upped a Mini 10 to “Jade Green” and threw in a 1.6GHz Z530 Atom processor (1.33GHz is standard) and ended up at $479, but there’s no expanding beyond the 1GB of RAM or the 160GB HDD, as per the international netbook treaty. The order page is quoting a “preliminary ship date” of April 2nd, up from the March 31st we saw two days ago, so we hope that’s just a rough estimate.

Just in time for CES, Seagate has begun shipments of its 12th generation 3.5” Barracuda hard drive, which continues to spin its platters at 7200 rpm. However, Seagate was able to increase the aereal storage densities of its platters, which reduces the number of disks and potentially power consumption as well.

Whereas the previous Barracuda generation used disks with a storage capacity of 320 – 375 GB, the new 7200.12 HD model increases the number to 500 GB per platter or a density of 329 Gb per square inch. That number is especially impressive if we remember than the industry believed that the natural storage density barrier would be about 100 Gb per square inch and even laser-assisted technologies would only reach to 250 Gb per square inch.

Seagate offers the new drives as 1-platter and 2-platter models providing up to 1 TB of storage, which is less than the maximum capacity of the 7200.11 drive that tops out at 1.5 TB (4 x 375 GB). At least in theory, the new platters would allow Seagate to come up with a 2 TB hard drive, which may be the case as soon as the company’s rivals are catching up with similar technology. There was no information on the power consumption of the drive, but we would expect the drive to consume less than the 4-platter 1.5 TB model and be in the range of the previous 2-platter 750 GB 7200.11 drive.

Seagate said that the new Barracudas are in production now and are offered in 500 GB, 750 GB, and 1 TB versions. The company did not disclose the suggested retail price of the drives.
